Why Exeter? (DRAFT)

[text taken from visitexeter.com]

A small city that packs a big punch, Exeter is one of the most vibrant, attractive and historically interesting cities in England.

Exeter has a real sense of individuality, its varied cultural scene is embraced by proud locals, and the diverse mix of eateries means it is renowned as one of the foodie capitals of the South West. Head to the West Quarter or the cobbled Gandy Street to discover great mix of independent shops and boutiques, cafes and bars.

When it comes to culture Exeter is renowned in the south west for its independent arts scene. It is also firmly on the map as a destination for top sporting events and music. A good mix of independent venues such as the Exeter Phoenix, and large venues such as nearby Powderham Castle play host to a packed calendar of events and festivals throughout the year.

In Exeter we love the outdoors. The city’s location in the heart of Devon, surrounded by miles of countryside and close to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, means there are plenty of opportunities for adventure. This is the perfect place to try a new activity, or simply relax and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Exeter is perfectly positioned in the South West, with Dartmoor on it’s doorstep and a fantastic range of beaches just 30 minutes away. At the end of the M5 motorway, Exeter has two train lines to London (Paddington/Waterloo), plus an international airport.

Synopsys is a large American software company, mostly known as an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) company. Most of the members of the team in Exeter are from the Simpleware Product Group, originally a spin-out from the University of Exeter which was acquired a few years ago. Exeter has always been where we feel at home. Our office in the city centre is great for those who seek life in or near a city with easy access to the outdoors. In addition, we have enjoyed good ties with the University and other local tech and business organisations.

The Simpleware Product Group develops a software that takes 3D image data such as those created by medical CT and MRI machines and create models that can be used for virtual planning in a clinical environment or analysis by engineers. Our users range from medical device companies to industrial manufacturers, and anyone who wants to do more with their scan data. Our software is used around the world, and we are constantly looking to innovate in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and 3D printing.
